Kasunda Attacks Chakwera, Other Politicians Over Lack of Adherence to COVID-19 Guidelines

An acting Presidential Press Secretary, Anthony Kasunda has taken to task politicians who are not observing COVID-19 Preventive Guidelines when conducting campaign rallies ahead of by-elections for members of parliament and a ward council slated to take place in some parts of the country.

Speaking at a bi-weekly press conference the state house organizes, Kasunda said it is worrisome that people are not observing social distances, wearing face masks as well as sanitizing even though the taskforce on the pandemic eased some of the measures.

He has since described the conduct by the politicians as self and recklessness projecting this may trigger up, for the fourth time, number of positive cases in near future.

Kasunda’s sentiments come as for the past days, the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and other politicians have been bringing thousands of people together in their campaign rallies surpassing the 250 people maximum limit gathering an in open space.

Ironically, Kasunda’s boss, President Lazarus Chakwera has also recently also had some rallies in Malawi’s southern region where a lot of people gathered with no adherence to the preventive guidelines.
